In a significant development, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to launch the humanoid robot Vyommitra into space in the third quarter of 2024, as announced Union Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Jitendra Singh. Vyommitra, derived from the Sanskrit words "Vyoma" meaning space and "Mitra" meaning friend, is designed to monitor module parameters, issue alerts, and execute life support operations in space. This mission is part of ISRO's uncrewed flight tests for the Gaganyaan program, with the first crewed mission scheduled for 2025. The successful launch of Vyommitra signifies India's progress in space exploration and its commitment to advancing scientific innovation
