India to Launch Deep-Sea Mission by 2025 to Unlock Marine Resources

   Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized the importance of exploring unexplored and under-explored sectors like the deep sea and the Himalayas to achieve the India 2047 vision. Speaking at the States’ Policy Conclave 2024, he announced that India will commission its Deep-Sea Mission by the end of next year, unlocking vast marine resources that can contribute to the nation's economic growth.

   Highlighting the untapped potential of marine ecosystems, Dr. Singh noted that 12 coastal states across India, from Odisha to Maharashtra, hold immense deep-sea resource reserves. He also stressed the strategic importance of Himalayan resources for states like Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

   The Minister credited India’s pro-business policies over the last decade for accelerating innovation and resource exploration. He pointed out that India’s startup ecosystem has surged from just 350 startups in 2014 to 1.75 lakh today, ranking third globally. Citing the success of 3,000 lavender startups in Jammu & Kashmir, he underscored the need for strong industry-academia linkages to sustain growth.

   Dr. Singh also hinted at a National Resource Foundation designed on a global strategy to further drive scientific and industrial advancements. With a firm commitment to deep-sea and Himalayan exploration, India is positioning itself as a leader in sustainable resource utilization for its 2047 development goals.
