KRIBB Develops Virus Diagnostic Antibody with 100 Times Higher Sensitivity Using Plants

2024-07-30

A research team, including Dr. Hye-Seon Cho and Dr. Sang-Jik Kim from the Korea

Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB), has developed a plant cell-
based platform for producing virus diagnostic antibodies with significantly higher sensitivity.

Previously, antibodies for diagnosing foot-and-mouth disease virus were produced using
animal cells or E. coli. The plant cell-based virus diagnostic antibody production technology
developed by this research team is expected to be utilized for various diagnostic antibody
production in the future. Antibody diagnostics are used to determine virus infection. In
antibody diagnostics, antibodies and peroxidase are used together. The research team
developed a protein production platform that combines antibodies and peroxidase using a
plant expression system.
