IIT Madras Develops Universal Battery Charger for Electric Vehicles

Researchers at IIT Madras have developed a universal battery charger for electric vehicles
(EVs) that can provide a voltage range of 120-900V from a universal input power supply.
This innovation aims to eliminate the need for different chargers for various EV types,
making it possible to charge two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers from a single
unit. The charger, led by Dr. Deepak Ronanki, can also be used as a portable unit in
emergencies. The development addresses the lack of versatile charging infrastructure, and
efforts are underway to commercialize the product within a year.
