Indian scientists have created an open-source tool to generate an infrared star catalogue
for the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT), a significant upcoming project on Mauna Kea,
Hawaii. This tool will support the Adaptive Optics (AO) system, helping the telescope
produce sharper images by correcting atmospheric distortions. India's collaboration in the
TMT project involves key institutes like the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bengaluru. The
tool will generate a comprehensive star catalogue essential for the TMT's operations in the
next decade
