India's demand for semiconductor chips is projected to shift significantly, with 60% of the value coming from chips smaller than 10 nanometers (nm) by 2032. Currently, the country's chip requirement stands at $10 billion, and it is expected to rise to $40 billion over the next decade. Despite this growing demand, the majority of these advanced 10 nm chips will continue to be imported, highlighting the urgent need for domestic semiconductor manufacturing capabilities to meet future technological and industrial requirements. India has several new semiconductor projects in the works, including (1) Adani and Tower Semiconductor: A $10 billion project in Maharashtra to manufacture chips for drones, cars, smartphones, and other mobility solutions, and (2) Tata Group: Semiconductor units in Assam and Gujarat to produce mature chips for consumer electronics, automobiles, defence systems, and aircraft.
