Keltron Component Complex Limited (KCCL), a leading public-sector electronics manufacturer in India, inaugurated the country’s first Supercapacitor Production Facility in Kannur, Kerala, on October 1, 2024. The event was led by Kerala’s Chief Minister, Shri. Pinarayi Vijayan, alongside prominent dignitaries, including Shri. P. Rajiv, Minister for Industry, and Shri. A.P.M. Muhammed Hanish, Principal Secretary (Industries). The new facility positions India as a player in advanced electronics manufacturing, leveraging Keltron's expertise in capacitors and passive electronic components.
This ₹42-crore initiative, supported by ISRO and various government agencies, marks the culmination of years of research into supercapacitor technology, beginning with the 2014 government-funded “Development of Aerogel Supercapacitors” project. With pilot production successfully completed, the facility is expected to generate ₹22 crore in turnover and ₹3 crore in profit by its fourth year. The initial investment of ₹18 crore has established a state-of-the-art production unit with advanced dry rooms and imported machinery.
Supercapacitors, known for their superior energy storage, rapid charge/discharge cycles, and durability, are designed at this facility using activated carbon electrodes with organic electrolytes. These components serve diverse applications, from consumer electronics to renewable energy systems. Keltron’s technological leap is poised to address the growing global demand for efficient, high-capacity energy storage solutions.
With over 50 years of expertise, KCCL operates as India’s largest manufacturer of aluminum electrolytic capacitors, producing over 13 crore units annually. This achievement enhances KCCL’s reputation as a trailblazer in the electronics sector and reaffirms its commitment to innovation and sustainability.
