The Government of India, under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, has invited proposals for establishing Centres of Excellence (CoEs) dedicated to advancing Green Hydrogen Research and Development (R&D). Announced by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) on November 4, 2024, this initiative aims to accelerate India’s transition to a low-carbon economy by fostering innovation in Green Hydrogen production, storage, and utilization.
With a budget of ₹100 crore, the CoEs will serve as hubs for cutting-edge research, skill development, and collaboration among academia, industry, and government. These centres will focus on enhancing process efficiencies, developing new products, and disseminating knowledge to build a robust Green Hydrogen ecosystem in the country. Public and private entities, including universities and research institutions, are encouraged to form partnerships and submit proposals under the R&D Scheme.
The National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched in January 2023 with a financial outlay of ₹19,744 crores, aims to reduce India's reliance on fossil fuel imports, significantly decarbonize the economy, and position the country as a global leader in Green Hydrogen technology. By supporting this initiative, India takes a crucial step toward achieving energy independence and fostering global clean energy transitions.
