NITI Aayog hosted a symposium on “Green Transition in States” at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, highlighting India’s efforts to promote sustainable energy solutions. The event, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Power and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), marked the launch of the ASSET Platform (Accelerating Sustainable Solutions for Energy Transition). This initiative aims to assist states in developing and implementing comprehensive energy transition plans, building pipelines of investable projects, and leveraging best practices in emerging technologies like Green Hydrogen, energy efficiency, and offshore wind.
Key dignitaries, including Sh. Suman Bery (VC, NITI Aayog) and Sh. BVR Subrahmanyam (CEO, NITI Aayog), emphasized the importance of cooperative federalism and innovative funding to address challenges in renewable energy adoption. Updates were shared on national programs like the PLI scheme for solar PV manufacturing, PM-KUSUM for rural solar deployment, and the PM Surya Ghar scheme for distributed solar energy. Speakers highlighted the critical role of alternative clean fuels, advanced energy storage, and reforestation initiatives, including the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” movement, which has led to the planting of 99 crore saplings.
The symposium featured sessions showcasing successful renewable energy practices by state governments, private entities, and think tanks. The ASSET platform is expected to accelerate India's energy transition, aligning state initiatives with national goals of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070 and supporting the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.
