IIT Ropar’s iHub AWaDH (Agriculture and Water Technology Development Hub), under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS) by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, has introduced a groundbreaking cost-effective Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Gateway and Node System. This system is designed to revolutionize IoT applications across sectors such as agriculture, logistics, smart cities, and environmental monitoring. The BLE Gateway offers seamless connectivity through 4G, WiFi, and LAN, making it adaptable to diverse networking environments. It supports data transmission over 1 km in line-of-sight scenarios and can manage 100+ BLE nodes, which is ideal for large-scale IoT deployments. Its energy-efficient design ensures prolonged operation, making it suitable for remote areas where power is a concern. Additionally, it features weatherproof construction, allowing it to withstand extreme environmental conditions. The system also enables remote firmware updates through Firmware Over-The-Air (FOTA), reducing manual intervention. Data transmission is secured with BLE encryption, ensuring the protection of sensitive environmental data. The system is compatible with mobile apps, cloud platforms, and various sensors, enabling users to access data remotely for enhanced decision-making.
This innovation has significant implications for key sectors. In agriculture, it supports precision farming by monitoring critical factors like soil moisture, air quality, and environmental conditions, thereby promoting sustainable practices. In logistics, it ensures optimal environmental conditions for perishable goods, minimizing risks of spoilage during storage and transit. The system is also valuable in smart cities and industrial monitoring, where it can be used for large-scale environmental monitoring and security applications. By providing real-time data transmission and customizable alerts, it enhances resource management, improves operational efficiency, and ensures security. This technology is poised to transform how data is transmitted, analyzed, and acted upon in real-time, making it a vital tool for industries aiming for smarter, more efficient systems.
